Cody A. Dishon Named to Texas Lawyer’s 2026 Texas Legal Awards Following $70+ Million Courtroom Run
Recognition follows Dishon’s last three consecutive contested proceedings, consisting of two jury trials and one arbitration, which collectively yielded more than $70 million in awards, including interest.

The Ferguson Law Firm, LLP is proud to announce that equity partner Cody A. Dishon has been named by Texas Lawyer as the recipient of the 2026 Texas Legal Awards Rising Star in Personal Injury, making him the sole statewide honoree in the category.
Presented annually by Texas Lawyer and ALM, the Texas Legal Awards recognize outstanding achievement, leadership, and impact across the Texas legal profession. ALM describes the Texas Legal Awards as recognizing “the best the profession has to offer.”
Among the honors presented through the Texas Legal Awards is the Rising Star recognition, which honors leading Texas lawyers under 40 across select areas of practice. Dishon was the only attorney in state selected as the 2026 honoree in Personal Injury.
According to ALM’s published methodology, senior editorial leaders and subject-matter judges evaluate hundreds of submissions, with only a small percentage advancing as finalists and even fewer selected as winners.
The 2026 awards ceremony will be held September 30, 2026, at the Arts District Mansion in Dallas.
A Proven Courtroom Advocate
Dishon’s recognition arrives during an extraordinary stretch of courtroom success. His last three consecutive contested proceedings, consisting of two jury trials and one arbitration, collectively yielded more than $70 million in awards, including interest. The cases were tried in three different venues, involved three distinct areas of personal injury law, and each resulted in a multimillion-dollar award.
Notably, each of those complex cases had been previously handled by other counsel before being entrusted to Dishon.
Beyond those three recent contested proceedings, Dishon has continued to secure significant negotiated recoveries for his clients, recently leading the investigation and securing an $18.5 million wrongful death settlement arising from a fatal 18-wheeler crash in Louisiana, another 8-figure settlement, and several 7-figure settlements.
A Career Built in the Courtroom
Dishon distinguished himself as a trial lawyer early in his career. At just 30 years old, Cody became one of the youngest attorneys in Texas history to earn Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction held by fewer than 2% of all Texas lawyers.
In late 2024, Dishon served as lead trial counsel in his first medical malpractice jury trial, obtaining a $59.7 million verdict for a client suffering from a rare neurological condition. The verdict was ranked the No. 1 medical malpractice verdict in Texas for 2024 by TopVerdict and was among the largest medical malpractice verdicts in the United States that year.
Super Lawyers later featured Dishon and the case in its magazine, noting, “It was Cody Dishon’s first medical malpractice trial, and it was a tough one.”
Advocacy, Leadership, and Service
Dishon believes the constitutional right to trial by jury is fundamental to a civil justice system that gives ordinary people a fair opportunity to be heard, regardless of the size, wealth, or power of those on the other side. His advocacy extends beyond the courtroom, where he has spoken publicly about preserving the jury system and protecting meaningful access to the courts.
For Dishon, that commitment is personal. He has never forgotten where he came from or the people he entered the profession to represent.
That commitment also extends to the next generation. Dishon regularly shares his experience with lawyers, students, and aspiring advocates. He has spoken statewide on trial advocacy and jury perspectives and recently spoke to students at Texas A&M University, encouraging future leaders to pursue careers in law and advocacy.
A Career Still Being Written
At an age when many attorneys are still developing their courtroom experience, Cody Dishon has already built a record that would distinguish an entire career.
But Dishon’s career is about more than the numbers. It is about what he continues to do with the opportunity: fight for ordinary people, defend the right to trial by jury, and inspire the next generation of advocates to do the same.
