Attorney Tim Ferguson – Why I Became a Lawyer

Ferguson Law Firm Attorney Tim Ferguson explains the importance of a trial attorney.

Growing up, seeing my dad working so hard, and seeing the effect that his work had on people — that made me want to do it. So I went to law school, and every day I strive to be the best lawyer I can be. Part of it, I think, is following his footsteps, seeing what he did for people as I grew up.

The second reason: in 2010, I got drafted by the Kansas City Royals. Three or four seasons into it, I got hurt. While I was at home, I thought, "Man, I need something to do while I'm sitting around rehabbing my shoulder," and I saw this little red book — a sports law book my sister had from a class in college. I picked up that book just because it got my attention, and I read it while I was rehabbing. I learned about the baseball antitrust exemption, the Curt Flood Act, and about unionizing minor league baseball, and how cool at least the concept was. Because of that, when I got released by the Kansas City Royals, I did a one-eighty from athletics to academics, took my LSAT, and went to law school — because of that book.

And I think that turned into helping people who are injured — people who don't know they need the help that we can provide here.
