I tell people all the time who come in uncertain whether their situation warrants an attorney, or whether they need help: the term I like to use is due diligence. It is free of charge. We do not charge clients anything to come in, sit down with us, and discuss what their problem is and the ways we might be able to help.

Sometimes the answer is that there's nothing we can do. Sometimes the client thinks, "I can take care of this without help." But it's due diligence, and you owe it to yourself and to your family to make sure you've used the best due diligence you can to address whatever legal problem you may be having.
